For Christian business owners who are dads
Stop living emotionally paycheck to paycheck.
Gen1 Leadership helps you lead yourself first, so your family and your business get your best.
Sound familiar?
You started the business for your family. Now it takes more from them than it gives.
- You're home, but you're not really home. Your phone comes to dinner and your mind stays in the inbox.
- Work follows you through the door a lot more than home follows you to work.
- You know what you should do. Pray, plan the week, put the phone down. You keep promising yourself, and you keep breaking it.
- You say yes to every client because you're afraid that if you slow down, the business slows down with you.
- Your wife is carrying more than her share, and your kids are starting to notice.
- From the outside it looks like you have it together. At night you lie awake wondering if you're wasting what God gave you.
The real problem
It's not a time problem. It's not a discipline problem.
You've read the books. You've bought the planner. You've tried waking up earlier and working harder. None of it stuck, because none of it touched the real issue.
It's a clarity problem. When you haven't settled who you are and what matters most, everything feels urgent. So you live in reaction mode, and the people you love get what's left of you.
You don't need more productivity tips. You need one way of leading yourself that holds your faith, your family, and your business together.
What changes
From scattered and reactive to steady and dependable.
| From | To |
|---|---|
| Reacting to whatever is loudest | Leading your week on purpose |
| Torn between the business and home | One rhythm for your faith, your family, and your work |
| Breaking promises to yourself | Keeping your word, starting with yourself |
| Emotionally paycheck to paycheck | Something left over for the people you love |
| Physically home | Actually home |
How we work
Three things, worked on together.
Light
Your energy and presence. How you lead yourself before you lead anyone else.
Life
Your work. A business built around what God has actually called you to, not everything you could do.
Love
The people who matter most. Real time with your wife and kids, protected on the calendar instead of squeezed in.
The Gen1 cohort
The next cohort is forming.
A small online group of men in the same season, because none of us figure this out alone. You leave with:
- A clear weekly rhythm for your faith, your family, and your business
- Simple filters for the decisions that keep you up at night
- Men who will ask how it's actually going
Dates and details are coming soon. Start with a call and you'll be the first to hear.
“Throughout our time working together, I have consistently felt encouraged and challenged to improve, particularly in being more mindful of my habits and internal communication. John is dedicated to your success and is an excellent guide through the complexities of life and personal growth.”
For churches
Bring Gen1 to your men's group.
John teaches two workshops for church men's groups. Both are rooted in Scripture, run on real conversation, and send every man home with something written down that he can use on Monday.
Three hours
Ultimate Purpose
Most men believe three lies about purpose: that they have to hustle harder, that it's about more money or freedom, and that it lives at work. We answer each one from Genesis 1.
Men leave with a written “Who am I?” statement, their three core virtues, and a starting plan for their energy, their work, and their relationships.
Three hours
The Family Creed
Most dads want to lead their home. Very few have ever been shown how. In this workshop, men write down what their family is about and how they want to live together.
Men leave with a first draft of their family's mission, vision, and rules for life, plus a guide for working through it with their wife.
About John
I'm a husband and a dad first.
I'm John Troutman. I live in Boone, North Carolina, with my wife and our boys. I lead Campus Christian Fellowship at App State, and I've spent years walking with men who are trying to build something without losing the people they're building it for.
I'm in the same fight. That's why Gen1 exists.
Genesis 1 is where everything we teach is rooted. Gen1 also means generation one. The pattern you set now is the one your kids inherit. Let's make it a good one.
Start with a conversation.
Book 45 minutes. Tell me where things really stand at work and at home, and we'll figure out the next right step together.
